I Lost February

This is my own target that I wanna have at least an article a month for my blog post. But I lost February 2017! Since I did not wrote any article for the blog last month.
Huff, how come. Is it because of my routine agenda? I don’t think so. It is seems more about I did not spend any time just for write! Even for an article.
Actually there were so much incident, moment, and even days that I could tell and write for the blog. For example how I suppose that February had another day after its 28th! Another was my arm which was hurt, I didn’t knew by what, but after I did medical check up, it was because muscle acid in my arm. (am I right by using “muscle acid” term?).
But I can’t repaid the time, right? So, let it be my notice, that I should write, eventhough only an article in a month. [Afif E.]

Who Will Be the Next Indonesian Farmers?

Instead of having an article which is concise and full of progression, this my article is full of questions. Especially the question of mine.

Having a trip, in every near located area, I always saw the wonderful agriculture landscape of Indonesian farmers. Enlisted the richness of Indonesian soil. But when I saw the farmers, averagely I met only old people. Where is the youth farmers? If these old people died, as a nature consequences, who will be the next Indonesian farmers?

Beside industries growth, information technology advancement, trading and business with high value of money, is it only enough for supporting Indonesia in the future? I don’t think so. Agriculture is one of basic need of Indonesian people. So, it is still have to be enhanced.

I still remember a quotation a grasp from a 2013 general lecture session by PT. Petrokimia Gresik (one of the biggest fertilizer factory of Indonesia). The lecture session held in Sekolah Tinggi Teknik Qomaruddin Gresik, Indonesia. The speaker said that the competitor of Petrokimia is not another fertilizer factory. Its competitor is internet providers! How come?

Yes, it is come real! Since the farmers’ kids nowadays are addicted with the internet, social media, an so on. The consequence is the money for buying fertilizer being reduced for buying cellphone credits. I think this phenomenon was part of global phenomenon, which is people nowadays always keep looking at their cellphone of smartphone. But affecting the agriculture world.

From these condition, once again I keep my question: who will be the next Indonesian farmers? Is it really important for having those advancement, while we left the agriculture behind? [Afif E.]

Are We in the Right Path?

I started questioning ideas of mine. It is happened when a group of student came to me, talk about a writing program proposed in one of academic program of Sekolah Tinggi Teknik Qomaruddin (sometimes I called the institution as: Qomaruddin School of Engineering) Gresik, Indonesia. Their main (and bold) concern about the writing program was: “doesn’t it too ambitious for requiring all the students with the writing program, does it?” Maybe their words not this, but I caught and paraphrased as it is.

Instead of constantly answering the students’ question, I quite and ask to my self: Are we in the right path? I mean, is the writing program is too ambitious program? Since the ability of lots of students were in average condition (not to mentioned that they didn’t able to write).

By then I remembering the relatively near past, back in 2012. During 2012, I met several students whom had a bigger passion than I had ever expected before. Gratefully, and thank to them, for gave me such a believe that the students of Sekolah Tinggi Teknik Qomaruddin have their own chance, to be recognized, be competitive, even in national stages, in this context in writing program. Since the kitchen which was boiled by the students of 2012 meeting. Several years later, Sekolah Tinggi Teknik Qomaruddin could achieve more and more papers for a competition. By remembering these moments, then I gave my answer to them (and to my self): no, this is not too ambitious.

We only need to devise the idea, to get the idea done. By this words doesn’t mean I underestimate the challenge, instead I want to learn and grasp the faith together with the students of Sekolah Tinggi Teknik Qomaruddin. Together we say “Bismillah” and the challenge will be answered: We can! And We are in the Right Path! [Afif E.]

Biar pembaca menyelesaikan sendiri. [Afif E.]

This is New Year’s Eve, eh?

Surabaya last 2013. I rushed to a flight with a friend of mine. We were going to Kuala Lumpur that day. Even though we were late several minutes, thankfully the officers in Bandara Juanda still gave us permission to go to the plane.

By then, that was us, in Kuala Lumpur’s LCCT. Traveling for the first time in a foreign country. Where we went into? We just flew with the crowd flow of people. Later, we stayed at my friend’s brother apartment. He was a migrant worker in Kuala Lumpur.

Second day in Kuala Lumpur. Everyone next to me spoke about party and party. Several people talk about KLCC’s Petronas Tower, but most of them agreed with Dataran Merdeka to go to. What about me? I did not understood at all at those time. Something I really want to do was just travelled around KL!

Still in the second day of mine in Kuala Lumpur. Around by eight at Kuala Lumpur time, we—by group—headed to Dataran Merdeka for some party I did not realised yet. And I did not ask anybody, including to my friend. Once again, the only thing I thought at the time was traveling the KL.

Walking heading to Dataran Merdeka, after we got the road was closed, and can not passed by our taxi

We, the group, headed to Dataran Merdeka by commuter, then taxi. But suddenly our taxi stop at a crossroad. “Why?” my friend’s brother ask the driver. The blockade answer the question: the access road to Dataran Merdeka was closed.

The commuter was crowded, the street was crowded. And of course along the road people getting talks each other. They were also going to the same party, perhaps. By then we walk. Heading to Dataran Merdeka of Kuala Lumpur.

Getting closed to the Dataran Merdeka there were so much crowded people. And then I just realized, in my own head I thought: “this is New Year’s eve, eh?!!”

🙂 [Afif E.]

Termos Air Selat Madura

Jpeg

Tremos Air Selat Madura

Ia hanyalah tremos biasa jika berada di rumah kita. Tremos yang hanya untuk menyimpan air panas. Lain lagi jika di tangan para pedagang asongan di atas geladak kapal penyeberangan selat Madura.

Saya selalu kagum sejak awal saya tahu.

Lalu, kalau pembeli mendapat wadah apa?

Rupanya selongsong pipa dirancang sedemikian rupa. Dibikinlah pipa seukuran tinggi kurang dari ketinggian tremos. Salah satu bagian ditutup dan menjadi bagian bawah. Bagian atas dibiarkan terbuka, sebagai wadah tumpukan gelas cup. Keren….

Wonderful! [Afif E.]
